Terminal Gamer’s 10 Most Anticipated Xbox 360 Games of 2010

The games we most desperately want to play on the Xbox 360 in 2010.

2009 featured a bumper crop of amazing games on the Xbox 360. From the zombie-fighting greatness of Left 4 Dead 2 to the fast-paced racing of Forza Motorsport 3, 2009 was a banner year. But, we can’t help looking forward to 2010. What titles are we most looking forward to? Here’s our list of our 10 most anticipated titles of 2010.

10. Red Dead Redemption

Set in the American West, Red Dead Redemption tells the story of a former outlaw, John Marston who must travel throughout the American Frontier to round up outlaws he used to work with, including his former gang partner, Bill Williamson. The game world will be huge and will feature small towns filled with saloons, canyons, mountains, and prairies. The sprawling environments will be aided by Rockstar’s RAGE engine, which was used in GTA IV, and is being developed by Rockstar San Diego. Combine that pedigree with a wide-open, sandbox world, weather and seasonal changes, a Mexican revolution, and furious gunplay, and you have a title that screams “play me!” Red Dead Redemption will be available on April 27, 2010.

9. Dead Rising 2

Set several years after the events of Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 will find a United States that has been overrun by the zombie apocalypse. Set in Fortune City, which is based on Las Vegas, motocross champion Chuck Greene is trying to find his daughter amongst the survivors hiding throughout the city.

The gameplay will be similar in nature to that of Dead Rising. Chuck Greene will have to fend off hordes of zombies while rescuing survivors and fighting those who have lost their marbles. The graphics have been greatly improved, and the game will now allow for up to 6,000 zombies to be on screen at once as compared to 800 in the original game. There will also be more missions and the same time mechanic that was used in Dead Rising. Dead Rising was one of the first great titles for the Xbox 360 and allowed players to live out their dreams of fighting hordes of zombies using any object within reach, from baseball bats to frying pans to katana swords and guns. Dead Rising 2 has an anticipated release in the first quarter of 2010, though an exact date has not yet been confirmed.

Dead Rising 2, featuring more zombie-killing goodness, sits pretty at number nine on our list

8. Medal of Honor

Set in modern day Afghanistan, Medal of Honor represents a major reboot for the decade-old shooter franchise that practically invented cinematic, World War II gaming. Faced with an uphill battle against the juggernaut that is Modern Warfare, Medal of Honor will follow a soldier in Tier One, a branch of the US military that fights in the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan against Taliban and Al Qaeda elements. Medal of Honor’s recently released trailer reveals an action-packed campaign that is sure to be cinematic and that will hopefully present a stunning and mature vision of the current war the U.S. is fighting in Afghanistan.

Medal of Honor is rebooting to Afghanistan and we're incredibly excited to get our hands on it. Number eight on our list for 2010.

7. Mafia II

Mafia, released in 2002 on the PC and ported to the Xbox and PS2 in 2004, was a critical and commercial success. Mafia told the story of Tommy Angelo, a young cab driver who inadvertently gets pulled into a Mafia operation when he has to deliver a mobster to a doctor while being chased by a car. He performs admirably and soon gets drawn into the mob, performing numerous duties between 1930 and 1938 before he begins to work with the police to bring down the mob boss, Don Salieri. The game featured a wide-open, sandbox world that included both city scenery and countryside to explore.

Mafia II, being developed by the same company under a new name, 2k Czech, will follow the exploits of Vito Scalleta, the son of Sicilian immigrants. Set in Empire Bay (a city based heavily on New York and San Francisco) between the years 1945-1955, Vito will become a made man, performing violent tasks for the Mafia. The game features a 700-page script, and is aiming for a realistic view of the Mafia world. Rather than huge firefights, the game will feature small-scale operations that will take tactical consideration. Mafia II aims to be a dark, gritty sandbox game. It will be released between February and June 2010.

Mafia 2 will feature an open world to explore, gunfights, and gangster's named Paulie - why wouldn't it be on our list? Mafia 2 cracks into our list at number 7.

6. Dante’s Inferno

Xbox and Xbox 360 owners have always wanted a “God of War” experience for their own console. After all, God of War was one of the biggest hits on the PS2, highly praised for its fast-paced action and stunning graphics. Dante’s Inferno, coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, will offer gamers the opportunity to step inside Dante’s legendary, epic poem. You will play as Dante, who, returning from the Crusades, discovers that the love of his life has been murdered, her soul taken by Lucifer. Arriving at the gates of Hell, you will fight through the nine circles of hell to reach Lucifer and reclaim her soul. Promising a wide variety of level designs, huge boss fights, and non-stop action, Dante’s Inferno, developed by the same Visceral team that created Dead Space, looks to be amazing.

Dante's Inferno will follow Dante as he battles through the circles of hell to free the soul of the love of his life, and he'll do so with plenty of blood and gore. Number six on our list for furious action.
