Valve sent out a press release last night that announced the official Steam arrival date on the Mac as May 12.
The press release included no additional information, but it’s nice to know that Valve is quickly moving from beta to full release in a hurry. Originally, when Steam for the Mac was announced it was indicated that the game client would arrive in April. Valve gave no reason for the delay, but the arrival of Steam is a welcome addition to the Mac catalog.
Steam for the Mac will see the release of Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, the Half-Life series, Portal and Counter-Strike. In addition, Valve announced that all their future games will be developed for the Mac in addition to the PC, and they expect additional developers to begin releasing games for Mac’s as well.
According to OSX Daily the system requirements for the Mac version of steam are:
- Intel processor
- Mac OS X 10.5 or greater, some games require 10.5.8 or 10.6.3 or higher
- X3100 and 950 integrated Intel Graphics chipsets are not supported (older MacBook models)
