Halo 2 Players Receiving Halo: Reach Beta Invites via E-Mail

Microsoft today sent out e-mails to gamers who are still playing Halo 2, offering compensation for the upcoming online severance of their favorite multiplayer title next month.

Microsoft announced last month that Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox titles will be severed on April 15 in order to make room for Natal and other advancements on the online gaming service. The e-mails, sent out to gamers whose gamer profiles are frequently connected to Halo 2, announced that gamers can redeem a free, three-month Xbox LIVE Gold membership, 400 Microsoft Points and an invite to the Halo: Reach Beta.

While legions of Halo 2 fans will be disappointed to lose access to their favorite online title, invitations to the Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta sound pretty good to us. After all, the new Halo title will have jetpacks in multiplayer games! Jetpacks!

Alternatively, gamers who haven’t been playing Halo 2 for ages can still gain access to the Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta by purchasing Halo 3: ODST.
