SOCOM 4 Revealed; 1st Trailer Tonight on GTTV

Today, Sony officially announced SOCOM 4 for the PlayStation 3 via their US PlayStation Blog. The title is being developed by series creator, Zipper Interactive, which recently released the 256-player online-shooter MAG for the Playstation 3.

IGN.com was granted the first preview of the game. The game focuses on a 5-man NATO squad deployed near the Strait of Malacca, a key waterway in Southeast Asia. The campaign is planned to include 14 missions that should take around 12 hours to complete. Zipper is currently withholding all multiplayer details.

According to a recent Tweet from GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley the reveal trailer for SOCOM 4 will air during tonight’s episode.

Keighley’s post reads:

Reveal trailer for SOCOM 4 from Zipper tonight on GTTV. This is a real full-blown SOCOM.

Zipper Interactive is the development studio behind the main-series entries into the now almost 8 year-old series. The most recent console iteration, SOCOM: Confrontation was released for the Playstation 3 in 2008. Developed by Slant Six Games, title was almost universally panned at release due to crippling bugs and network issues. The online-only tactical shooter has since been patched extensively and enjoys a moderately-sized dedicated community of gamers.

Keighley’s description of the new title as “full-blown” can be taken to mean that the new title will feature a single-player campaign, a feature Confrontation is missing.

GTTV airs at 12:30 AM EST on Spike TV.
