Blizzard: Heart of the Swarm Will Be Epic

StarCraft II arrived yesterday, and if you didn’t already know, it’s subtitled “Wings of Liberty” and focuses on the Terran campaigns, with two expansion packs planned that will focus on the Zerg and Protoss, respectively.

While the expansions haven’t officially been confirmed by Blizzard, they’re pretty much common knowledge. So much so, in fact, that even Blizzard are talking a bit about them.

Speaking to CVG at the game’s launch party in London on Monday night, Carl Chimes of Blizzard said that the first expansion pack, “Heart of the Swarm” will be “as epic” as Wings of Liberty. “We’re still in the development process on that and we haven’t even come close to announcing anything yet,” he said.

“The next one will be Zerg-focused and it will be just as epic as Wings of Liberty,” he continued. We can expect a formal reveal of Heart of the Swarm at BlizzCon later this year, but for now, I don’t think many RTS fans are complaining. After all, they survived 12 years between StarCraft and StarCraft II.  They can wait for the development time of a full-fledged StarCraft expansion, right? History has shown Blizzard is actually pretty timely with those through StarCraft and Diablo II.
