Recent Poll Shows Troubling News For Kinect

Microsoft’s Kinect is, without a doubt, the most innovative motion control peripheral in development, with some industry professionals even going so far as to say that the Wii and Playstation’s Move are the same thing.  But despite the massive hype that Kinect is building, it appears that many gamers just aren’t interested in motion control.  A recent poll conducted by NowGamer shows some disturbing information for Microsoft.

According to the poll, nearly 75% of Xbox 360 owners don’t plan on purchasing the Kinect when it releases.  This is far from the first poll that shows a lack of support for the motion-based peripheral, and whether it’s due to the intimidating price tag or the fact that most gamers simply don’t want to get up and moving after a long day in the office or classroom, it’s troubling news for Microsoft.

Regardless of the reason, this is surely a sign that Microsoft needs to step up their game with the Kinect.  Here’s hoping that Kinect’s first hard-hitting titles will release alongside the peripheral’s launch, not 18 months after the fact, as is the official word right now.  Otherwise, the super-hyped Kinect may end up going the way of the Wii, doomed to an eternity as a home to nothing but an endless slew of virtual fitness instructors and carnival games.
