Rumor: Source Engine 2 and Half-Life 3 To Be At E3

Could Half-Life 3 and Source Engine 2 be appearing at E3 next week? It seems that just may be the ace up Valve’s sleeve. Let us dissect this latest Valve-related rumor:

Okay, so last week Valve sent us this missive:

Dear Subject Name Here,

Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word “surprise”, of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise.

If you’d like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise or, more fruitfully, schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve’s Special Envoy to Surprises, Doug Lombardi.

Thank you for <<RECORD SCRATCH!!!>>

PS: The surprising record scratch is also not the surprise.

What does it indicate? Well, last week an image showed up on the ‘net that indicated Freeman would be making an appearance on June 14, smack dab at E3.

See?

Then, some enterprising folks discovered hidden messages in Team Fortress 2 art:

And…

Voila.

But the “Freeman” image was quickly dismissed with a “fake” and the surprise “isn’t Half-Life 2: Episode 3” from Valve head Gabe Newell.

Sadness, right? Not necessarily. A source told VG247 that Valve’s surprise is “Source Engine 2,” which would be a new version of the Source Engine, which is six years old now, and that it would be demoed through Half-Life 3.

Yes, you read right. Half-Life 3 and Source Engine 2. Could this be true? Well, it seems that VG247 is quite confident in their source, so Half-Life fans, take it with a grain of salt, but expect something BIG from Valve next week.
