Monkey Island 2: Special Edition Announced

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge Special Edition is coming to the iPhone, Mac, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this summer. Yes, Mac is included in that list, you lucky Mac gamers, you.

LucasArts revealed the remastered update of the classic adventure game during the Game Developers Conference party yesterday. Included at the party were series creators Tim Schaefer (see: Grim Fandango, Pyschonauts and Brutal Legend) and Ron Gilbert, who were brought to the front of the audience for the announcement.

Speaking of the release, LucasArt President Darrell Rodriguez said, “We’re adding even more great features in this sequel and can’t wait for classic Monkey Island fans and newcomers alike to experience perhaps the most beloved installment in the franchise ever.”

In addition to announcing the remake of Monkey Island 2, LucasArts also revealed that The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be available for PS3 owners via PSN and for Mac owners via Aspyr’s GameAgent.

The special edition will include high-definition, reworked graphics, a re-mastered musical score, full voiceover, and an in-depth hint system for all of those adventure newbies out there. Is there any chance that all of these remakes of classic adventure games and new episodes of classics like Sam & Max will lead to a renaissance in adventure gaming?
