Sony Acquires LittleBigPlanet Developer Media Molecule

Sony has acquired Media Molecule, the company that developed LittleBigPlanet, the critically acclaimed title that allows gamers to create their own platform levels and navigate their sackboys through various obstacles. The game was a commercial success and was available solely on the PlayStation 3 and PSP.

The purchase guarantees that the developers titles can and will remain Sony exclusives.

The statement, posted on Sony’s European PlayStation Blog, said, “The decision was an easy one after meeting five young, talented people with a massive ambition to redefine video games as we know them and create and grow a fantastically talented team at Media Molecule. This was followed by a fantastic exclusive relationship that culminated in the launch of one of the most innovative PlayStation games of recent years.”

The statement goes on to note that Media Molecule “have exciting projects in the pipeline” and that Sony is “looking forward to sharing these with you in the not too distant future.”

The acquisition seems to be a solid win for Sony and for Media Molecule. We look forward to hearing what the projects Media Molecule has in the pipeline.
