Xbox LIVE Coming to Windows Phone 7

Microsoft confirmed today that their new Windows Phone 7 will feature Xbox LIVE support. In a press release, Microsoft said that the phones will have specific hubs that pull together related content from the Internet, applications and services and that one of the hubs, Games, would include Xbox LIVE.

According to the press release the games hub “delivers the first and only official Xbox LIVE experience on a phone, including Xbox LIVE games, Spotlight feed and the ability to see a gamer’s avatar, Achievements and gamer profile. With more than 23 million active members around the world, Xbox LIVE unlocks a world of friends, games and entertainment on Xbox 360, and now also on Windows Phone 7 Series.”

What does this mean for your average gamer who might just be interested in buying a Windows Phone in order to take advantage of the Xbox LIVE support?

It means that you’ll be able to keep in touch with Xbox LIVE buddies on the go, update your Gamer profile and play some turn-based games against other gamers. According to Xbox LIVE mobile General Manager Ron Pessner, “It has always been our vision to expand the Xbox LIVE service to connect people to their games, entertainments and friends wherever they go, and the launch of Windows Phone 7 Series is an important step toward that goal.” So while it seems that Xbox LIVE mobile doesn’t have many features yet, it could expand to include more features and games.
