Street Fighter IV Coming to the iPhone

When it released last year, Street Fighter IV, was an instant success. With slick visuals combining the modern and the retro, intuitive and responsive controls, and almost limitless replay value, it’s easy to see why you’d be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t enjoy the game. The only complaint? As soon as you left your living room, you had to stop playing. Until now, that is.

Capcom announced today that they will be porting their hit title to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The developer has made it extremely clear, however, that this is not some watered down version of the game. It is based off the same scripts as its console counterpart, just rewritten for the iPhone. Think if it as a virtual copy-and-paste. From early screenshots, Capcom seems to be backing up their claim sufficiently. Aside from the graphics, which look a tad bit blockier while still retaining the mix of 2D and 3D, everything seems to be exactly the same. From the button positions to the stages to the attack combos, the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV looks to be a carbon copy of it cousins on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

This move really shows that big name companies are finally taking an interest in the iPhone as a legitimate system, which will be good for gamers, developers, and Apple in the long run. The game is due out sometime next month, and will feature a cast of classic characters, bluetooth multiplayer, and all the lightning fast martial arts action available on the Xbox 360 and PS3, all in your pocket.
