Obsidian Collaborating With Red Eagle to Craft Wheel of Time Games

February 12, 2010 – Obsidian, currently developing Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol, announced today that it will be working in collaboration with Red Eagle Games to create games based on Robert Jodran’s Wheel of Time book series.

Red Eagle Games was launched in 2008 to create Wheel of Time products. In addition to creating video games based on the immensely popular fantasy novels, they are producing a Universal Pictures film based on Wheel of Time.

The games will be developed for “all major video game platforms” and Red Eagle and Obsidian are looking to capitalize on the strong lore of the series, a diverse background of information and legends, and strong characters to craft unique RPG experiences.

Obsidian consists of many former Black Isle developers who worked on the original Fallout games as well as Knights of the Old Republic II. Rick Selvage, Red Eagle Games’ CEO said of the collaboration, “Obsidian Entertainment is the ideal development partner to help Red Eagle Games take Jordan’s beloved characters from the printed page to exciting new forms of interactive media.”

Obsidian’s Chief Creative Officer, Chris Avellone added, “Games set in Robert Jordan’s universe have the chance to deliver on the epic storylines and the complex characters that the series is known for – and this is one of Obsidian’s strengths. It’s a natural fit.”
