BioWare: No Mass Effect for PS3

BioWare Explains PS3 Coding is Included in All Unreal Engine Titles, Says Mass Effect Will Not Be Coming to PS3

February 3, 2010 – Gaming forums have been alive with the news that PlayStation 3 code showed up in the PC version of Mass Effect 2, BioWare’s critical and commercial hit. The news only further inflated rumors that the space epic would be coming to the PlayStation 3 in due time but yesterday BioWare clearly stated that they have no intention to bring Mass Effect to the PlayStation 3.

A statement posted on BioWare’s forum reads:

“The Unreal Engine is cross platform, hence the PS3 code. This was brought up back in Mass Effect 1 days as well. Mass Effect is for the PC and Xbox 360. LOCKDOWN!”

Indeed, it has been confirmed by Kotaku that code for all Unreal engine titles including Gears of War contains mention of the PS3.

The news is unfortunate for PlayStation 3 owners as Mass Effect 2 is compiling a strong track record of more than 40 perfect scores (including one from us) and is being mentioned in the same adoring breath as Half-Life 2 and company. It currently enjoys a 96% rating on MetaCritic for the Xbox 360 and a 95% rating for the PC.

Let’s hope that, when the trilogy is complete, PlayStation 3 owners will have a chance to play one of the most epic, inspiring and just plain beautiful games ever made.
