Heron: Steam Machine Comes to iPhone Owners Early

iPhone Owners Can Play Heron: Steam Machine Today

December 31, 2009 In October, award-winning Dutch game developer Triangle Studios made Heron: Steam Machine, a frantic fast paced pipe puzzler, available for download on the Wii in Europe. On January 4, 2010 American Wii owners will be able to download it from the shopping channel. The game was also developed for the iPhone. Since the App Store doesn’t have separate release dates for individual regions, American gamers who own an iPhone or iPod Touch will be able to play it before any of their friends who plan to download it on the Wii. Heron: Steam Machine is available now on the App Store for less than a dollar, a price that can’t be beat.

Heron: Steam Machine is a fast paced pipe puzzler that incorporates some aspects of time management games. Players are tasked with helping Ron the mechanic operate the “steam machine” at the local rubber ducky factory. The object of the game is to connect different colored pipes from one end of the screen to the other as quickly as possible. It’s important to watch the four red, blue, green, and yellow gauges in the corners of the screen. If the corresponding colored pipes aren’t completed by the time the gauges fill up then the steam machine will be destroyed and poor Ron will lose his job. It starts out slow in the beginning, but after a few minutes the action is blisteringly fast. The iPhone version of the game doesn’t support a multiplayer feature like the Wii version, but the single player experience is still extremely satisfying, and it’s a steal at $0.99.
