E3 2010: Konami Announces Metal Gear Solid on 3DS

Earlier this week at E3, Konami released details on their initial lineup for Nintendo’s 3DS. The announcement included five games which are sure to please the DS’s established casual audience while also reaching out to the more serious gaming crowd. The lineup consists of Frogger, Contra, Baseball, Pro Evolution Soccer, and, perhaps most surprisingly, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D “The Naked Sample.”

“We are extremely thrilled to confirm that Konami has five major titles in development for Nintendo’s 3DS system. Bringing popular franchises such as Metal Gear Solid, Pro Evolution Soccer, Contra, and Frogger to the 3D realm is an exciting endeavor for us and we cannot wait to share more news in the coming months,” says Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment.

Considering Nintnendo’s last brush with the Metal Gear Solid series, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, was over half a decade ago, it comes as a shock to see an entry in the franchise being developed for a Nintendo console at all, let alone a portable one. However, given the limited information available at this stage, “The Naked Sample” seems to be employing every bit of technology the powerful 3DS has to offer. You can watch a demo of “The Naked Sample” below.  Here’s hoping “The Naked Sample,” along with the rest of Konami’s 3DS lineup, lives up to the legacy created by previous games in the series.
