New Mortal Kombat In Development By Founding Father, Ed Boon

In what could possibly be the best possible turn for the Mortal Kombat franchise, which has been slowly declining in recent years, Ed Boon, creator of the fighting gore-fest that has become a household name, has taken control again. His studio, presently re-named as NetherRealm, is promising to be a “triumphant return” and is going back to the basics. No circular arenas, stream-line smooth fighting system, good ol’ one-on-one fights, and our favorite characters are back. NetherRealm also promises to bring us even bloodier, more gruesome fatalaties which is what the franchise is best known for.

Ed Boon had this to say: “We can’t wait for players to get their hands on Mortal Kombat. This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!” One has to love the enthusiasm he has for his brain-child.

Not only are we going back to basics, but there will be even more new game modes for those who crave such a thing. Do you want to fight co-op? Mortal Kombat will have that. Do you have four friends and want to play at the same time? Jump into a tag-team match and do it! Think you and your friends are the best out there? Hop online and take on another group of fighters in some serious combat.

From the looks of things, when Mortal Kombat releases in 2011 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 fans will not be disappointed. No more is known, but for now take a look at the first trailer from the new game and go ahead and tell us what you think!
