New Red Faction Game Revealed

Last night on GameTrailers TV, the trailer for the newest installment in the Red Faction franchise, dubbed Red Faction: Armageddon, debuted. The game depicts events on the Martian planet approximately 50 years after the events of Guerrilla. You play as Darius Mason, grandson of Alec Mason and Samanya. From the trailer we are able to piece together that events lead to all the inhabitants taking refuge underground after some accident that occurs on the surface. All is not well though as a group of monsters is uncovered also living below the surface and Darius is forced to take up arms to defeat them.

The setup doesn’t intrigue me so much as how game play will be affected. Guerrilla saw a persistent open world where anything and everything could be destroyed. Though the game now shifts underground, the third person perspective and incredible damage/physics engine seem to be intact. Whether or not this game takes on a more linear mission structure remains to be seen, but here’s to hoping that the open world style doesn’t change just because the world has moved underground.

No other details are really known at this time, so we’ll have to leave it with the standard industry answer that prevails regarding all games announced around this time of the year. “Stay tuned for E3 where we should hear more about _____”. In this case, we can substitute Red Faction: Armageddon for our E3 madlib.
