The Passing Arriving Tomorrow

Yesterday Valve e-mailed a press release declaring the The Passing DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 will be arriving on Thursday for the PC and Xbox 360.

The Passing will feature a unique campaign that chronicles a run-in between the survivors from Left 4 Dead 2 and the survivors from Left 4 Dead. The survivors will work together to get through an area of the deep south, and one of the original characters from Left 4 Dead will die.

In addition, The Passing will feature new game modes that carry across the entire game and all of its campaigns. There will be a weekly game mode event dubbed “mutations.” According to the press release, “These week-long runs of new gameplay modes range from ‘Realism Versus’ mode to ‘Chainsaw Massacre,’ which gives all players chainsaws with an unlimited supply of gasoline. There are over 20 Mutations planned, each playable on all L4D2 Campaigns. Mutations are exclusively available to owners of ‘The Passing’ DLC.”

So, weekly challenges will be added to Left 4 Dead 2, as will a new, co-operative challenge mode that wasn’t explained in the press release. What could it be? Your guess is as good as ours. In addition to the week-long Mutations and the new co-op mode there will also be infected bot play on Versus mode, the fallen survivor (an uncommon common) and a golf club and M-60.

The Passing will cost 560 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360 and will be free on the PC, continuing Valve’s great support of PC gamers.
