The ESRB has re-rated Star Wars: Dark Forces for both the PlayStation 3 and PSP, indicating that the classic Star Wars FPS may be coming to the PlayStation store in the near future.
Star Wars: Dark Forces was originally released on both the PC and PlayStation, and is a classic first-person shooter. It featured the Jedi game engine, which pushed forward gaming from 2D towards true 3D environments. The game took players to a Star Destroyer, Jabba the Hutt’s space yacht and an underground computer vault.
In addition to providing a unique set of environments, Star Wars: Dark Forces featured non-weapon items such as Ice Cleats and a Headlamp that were meant to aid the player through certain sections of the game. It also featured weapons with alternate fire modes and included jumping, crouching and other elements now considered standard in all games. Dark Forces is a classic shooter and would be a great addition to the PlayStation Store if the ESRB rating is any indicator of its pending arrival.
