Infinity Ward Still “Central To Call of Duty’s Future”

An internal memo distributed by Activision to the members of Infinity Ward yesterday said that, “Infinity Ward remains central to Call of Duty’s future and we rely on the combined talent, expertise and leadership of the team there for its success.”

However, Activision also announced yesterday that they would be pushing forward with development of a new Call of Duty game using the newly-formed Sledgehammer Studios and they also fired Jason West and Vince Zampella, the founders and studio heads at Infinity Ward. There has been a massive fallout between the development studio and its publisher as insiders at Infinity Ward have claimed that they have received no royalties for Modern Warfare 2 and West and Zampella reportedly were “let go” for insubordination.

While at the moment investors in Activision-Blizzard will be happy to hear that Infinity Ward is still going to be actively involved in the Call of Duty series, there may be a mass exodus of talent underway soon as West and Zampella are almost certain to found a new studio.

Oh, and prepare for lots of Call of Duty games in the next two years. This should be interesting. What do you guys think?
