Xbox Live Moderator Accused of Abusing Power

An Xbox LIVE member who was banned over the weekend while playing Modern Warfare 2 has posted a video on YouTube, which can be seen below, showing the game he was playing when he was banned by “The Pro”, an Xbox LIVE moderator. The user claims that he was unjustly banned and that many others have been banned as well by the moderator.

The banned user, iTzlupo, has hit a snag, however. If you watch the video he posted, the first video below, you can see that it was clearly doctored and shortly afterwards, portions from the unedited video arrived on YouTube. The unedited video portions show the user instituting mods in the game and verbally harassing the pro with numerous curses and references to the moderators grandmother. The unedited portion can be seen below the first video.

Stephen Toulouse, Director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox LIVE confirmed via Twitter that he had seen the video and sponsored the ban of the user, saying,

“He [The Pro] was policing 10th prestige MW2 modding which results in gold account and console ban. While I will speak to him [The Pro] about his tone, the audio is clearly recut to omit the threats and ToU (Terms of Use) violations. The console banning statements he made were about 10th prestige and GS modding. which these kids had been doing over and over and over, which can result in bans for the gold and consoles. They left that part out. [I am] Not going to link to the video, the person who posted it edited out how hard they were provoking The Pro so it deserves no link love/views.”

Luckily, YouTube always manages to dig up all sides of an argument and will probably inspire a whole host of comments about the immature audience playing on Xbox LIVE – how many of us have had to listen to pre-pubescent punks taunting and yelling in their high falsettos? – and about the absurd amount of modding and hacking that has ruined the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer experience for so many.
