Civilization: Network Open Beta This June

Conquer Other Civilizations While At Your Work Desk

February 2, 2010 – Sid Meier’s Civilization is coming to Facebook and the open beta will begin in June. Civlization: Network will combine two of the most addicting past times in history, Civilization and Facebook to create a game in which you and your friends band together to create a civilization to top all others.

Facebook is home to many different games and applications such as Mafia Wars and the always-seen around but never played Farmville.

The Civilization series, first introduced in 1991, is a strategy game in which the player is put in control of a nation-state, growing it over thousands of years, expanding territory, developing new technologies and conquering the world via diplomacy, technology or all out war. With many different paths to choose and numerous civilizations to control, from the Persians to the Greeks to the Americans and the English, Civilization has been one of the most played PC games of all time. It’s even branched over to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iPhone and DS via Civilization Revolution.

Civilization: Network looks to provide a way to play Civilization while at work or while on the road. According to Sid Meier, the creator of the Civilization series, the game will feature “everything you enjoy in Civ in a fully persistent environment – you can play as much as you like, whenever you like, and it’ll be free to play.”

The news regarding the beta became available via Variety. Take Two told the newspaper that the game’s open beta will be “sometime in June”.

Look to lose a lot more of your life soon as the combination of Civilization, Free, and Facebook takes away what little time you actually spent doing work at the office.
