Tony Hawk Ride Sells 114,000 Copies in November

Tony Hawk Ride Exceeds Expectations Despite Poor Reviews

Tony Hawk Ride sold 114,000 units on the Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in November, according to the NPD group. Coming in at a price of $119.99, the sales numbers are better than were expected throughout the industry due to its high price tag and generally negative reviews, which complained that the skateboard periphery was unwieldy and difficult to use while the gameplay itself was lacking in charm or fun.

It is expected that Activision, the publishing company behind Tony Hawk Ride, will be using the periphery piece in other games, though that has yet to be officially confirmed by the company.

If the sales results are any indication, there is a significant market for periphery-based games, regardless of reviews. Which, of course, is good news for Activision as they ride on the recent high of Modern Warfare 2 and now, unexpectedly strong sales for Tony Hawk Ride, which opens the door for more games based upon the board periphery.
