Release of Dead Space 2 Confirmed by EA

Sequel To Survival Horror Game Confirmed – Isaac Clarke Prepares For Another Fight

EA-owned Viscreal Games has announced a sequel to 2008’s acclaimed survival horror game, Dead Space. Though there is no Dead Space 2 release date given or, really, specific details of any kind, the game is confirmed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The only hints of plot found in the official release suggest that the protagonist, Issac Clarke, will be actively hunting necromorphs this time around. “Survival isn’t the only thing on Isaac’s mind in Dead Space 2 – this time he calls the shots.”

Why is Isaac on the warpath? Perhaps in an attempt to eliminate their threat, but maybe he just feels the need for company. Space is big and lonely, and a hug from a creature with six arms would be three times as comforting as a normal two-armed hug, even if it is trying to devour your organs.

This new angle could move the franchise towards a more action-oriented direction – think along the lines of the difference from Ridley Scott’s Alien to James Cameron’s Aliens. Poor Isaac seems doomed to be the Dead Space universe’s Ripley, as “the infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it” according to EA.

Other confirmed returnees are zero-g environments and Isaac’s trusty plasma cutter, though there will be plenty of “new tools to gruesomely slice and dismember the Necromorphs”. Well, you can’t say that Visceral Games doesn’t know its game’s strengths.
