Razer Kraken V4 Pro Review – Immersive Gaming

The Razer Kraken V4 Pro is a standout headset for gamers, offering an immersive audio experience that lives up to the high standards set by Razer’s previous Kraken models.

Here’s a breakdown of its key features and performance:

Design and Comfort

The Kraken V4 Pro maintains Razer’s signature chunky, yet comfortable design. The ear cups are large and padded with plush memory foam, providing a snug fit that works well for long gaming sessions. The breathable fabric prevents overheating, making it ideal for extended wear. Despite its sturdy construction, it remains lightweight, reducing the fatigue typically associated with bulkier headsets.

Audio Quality

The Kraken V4 Pro shines when it comes to audio performance. Equipped with 50mm Razer TriForce Titanium drivers, the headset delivers a rich, full sound that balances bass, mid-tones, and treble. The bass is punchy but not overwhelming, providing deep, impactful explosions in games without drowning out important audio details. The clarity in dialogue, footsteps, and environmental sounds makes it perfect for competitive games where sound accuracy is essential.

One of its standout features is THX Spatial Audio, which offers 360-degree positional sound. This creates an enveloping soundscape, especially in open-world or FPS games, where being able to pinpoint the direction of gunfire or footsteps can give players a significant advantage. The surround sound enhances immersion in single-player games, making it feel like you’re truly in the middle of the action.

Useful OLED Control Hub

The OLED Control Hub is the only way the headset will connect to the consoles via USB, but it’s functions are a little more limited than if you are using it with a laptop or desktop PC. The hub can be adjusted VIA the PC to display things like CPU%, CPU temp, GPU%, GPU temp, and/or laptop and headset battery percentages, but those only display while plugged into a PC. It would have been awesome to see those percentages and temps from the console, but sadly that’s not available information to third party peripherals.

Setting up your hub to make changes does require Razer’s Synapse software and the software is pretty simple to use. There’s also software to adjust the built in lighting of the headset called Razer Chroma. This is also easy to use and the settings you change on the PC will carry over to your console usage. I found that while the RGB lighting on the outside of the ear cups is cool for others to look at, they can drain the battery and cut your battery life down from around 45 hours of gaming to maybe 12 hours. If you’re a streamer and want to look cool, adjust the lights to fit your style, but if you are just gaming on your couch, turn them off and save your battery for gaming.

Microphone

The retractable mic is excellent for communication. It filters out background noise while capturing voice clearly, making it ideal for multiplayer gaming or streaming. While it’s not the best in the market for professional recording, it’s more than sufficient for in-game communication and casual streaming.

Customization and Features

The Kraken V4 Pro comes with Razer Synapse support, allowing for extensive customization. Through the software, you can tweak the EQ settings, adjust mic sensitivity, and personalize RGB lighting effects. The RGB is subtle but adds a nice touch of customization for users who enjoy syncing their gear.

Additionally, the haptics (vibration feedback) is a unique feature. While some may find it gimmicky, others will appreciate the tactile feedback it provides, adding a new layer of immersion, especially in action-heavy games.

Compatibility

This headset is highly versatile, compatible with PC, PlayStation, and Xbox through both USB and 3.5mm jack. This cross-platform functionality makes it a solid choice for gamers who want a single headset for multiple devices.

Final Verdict

The Razer Kraken V4 Pro is an impressive gaming headset, excelling in both comfort and audio quality. The THX Spatial Audio and haptic feedback provide a level of immersion that elevates the gaming experience, while the comfortable design makes it suitable for long sessions. If you’re a serious gamer looking for a high-quality, feature-packed headset with excellent sound and comfort, the Kraken V4 Pro is an outstanding choice.
