Developer Infinity Ward has released a rebuilt and revamped Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II upon the masses. Is the game worth your time, or should this one be left to die on the battlefield?

Read on to find out

Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was first released back in 2009 for the PS3, PC, and XBOX 360. It received decent review scores and sold a ton of copies. In early 2020 Infinity Ward remastered the game (our review for that title) for the PS4 and pretty much left the campaign storyline intact and added a few bells and whistles for the multiplayer modes, and successfully brought the Call of Duty franchise into the next generation of consoles. Fast forward two more years to now and you’ll find Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has been reworked again for the newest generation of consoles, but this time the campaign is brand new.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Review – New Storyline

The storyline for the game is an indirect sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Task Force 141 returns, with Captain John Price still running the show and supported by most of the same allies and few new faces. The storyline is well written and pretty deep, with a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes. From the opening sequence to the final missions, the storyline feels like it could have been ripped from the headlines of today.

The storyline takes you to some real world locations in Amsterdam, Chicago, Mexico, Urzikstan, and the new United Republic of Adal (URA). The recreation of these locations in-game are impressive and adds to the overall depth of the game. If you jump into the multiplayer for the game, you’ll be seeing some of these locations again as several of the maps make their online debut in both Call of Duty Online and Warzone.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Review – Next Gen Graphics

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is, without a doubt, one of the best looking, best sounding, and best animated Call of Duty games to date. Playing the game on a PS5 definitely has it’s advantages as loading times are non-existent and the 4K graphics make the game look smooth and highly polished. Add in the detailed environments and weaponry and you have, what has to be considered, the high bar that all shooter games must now look up to.

Once you’ve finished the outstanding campaign, you’ll also have a bunch of new items waiting for you in the multiplayer and co-op realm. Spec Ops mode has returned and some of these items can be used there as well.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Review – Conclusion

Infinity Ward may be recycling the name Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, but that doesn’t mean they are recycling content. On the contrary, they have created what can only be called a brand new addition to the storied franchise, and looks to be their most successful ever.

Well done Infinity ward. Well done!
