Redbox Coming to the PS3 Today With the Store Update

PlayStation 3 users in the U.S. will be able to stream thousands of movies from Redbox Instant when an app for the service launches later today on PlayStation Network, Redbox announced today.

Those who pay $8 per month for a Redbox membership will be able to access Redbox’s library of films such as White House Down, Marvel’s The Avengers, Super 8 and Fargo. The subscription also comes with four nights’ worth of rentals per month at a physical Redbox kiosk, of which there are more than 43,000 nationwide.

The PS3 app includes an exclusive feature called The Playlist, which offers collections of movies curated by themes like “Stuff Blowing Up” and “Beards On Film.” PS3 owners who don’t subscribe to Redbox can still use the app to purchase or rent films on demand, as well as find and reserve movies at local Redbox kiosks.

You can head to the Redbox website to sign up for a free month of the service now and be ready for when it goes live later today.

You can find Redbox Instant by Verizon in the “What’s New,” “My Channels,” and “TV/Video Services” sections on the PS3 XMB as well as in the Apps section of the PlayStation Store later on today.
