Review – Qlione Evolve

We went hands on with Rockin’ Androids Qlione Evolve. Did it evolve into a great game, or was it a mess? Find out after the jump.

Sony Online Entertainment and Rockin’ Android have teamed up to bring us Qlione Evolve. It will take you into a dangerous, microbe-eat-microbe world where you must dodge enemy assaults as you fight your way to the top of the ecosystem. The game is actually a bundle that includes the sequel, Qlione 2, and both games have their own set of trophies.

You play as a microbe that is under attack from other microbes. There are eight levels to each game with a boss at the end of each level. When you destroy the other microbes they release spores that you can consume that will help you evolve into a bigger and better microbe. Your attacks change as you evolve, so understanding these attacks is key to beating the bosses and the game. Some of the bosses are pretty easy, but most aren’t. The gameplay is fun and addictive once you get the hang of it.

The graphics for the game are surprisingly great for a downloadable PSN game. The environments are a rectangle petri dish, but the microbes are well designed and each boss is different and unique. The boss battles are where the game really shines, and the difficulty really ramps up the farther you get along.

The music for the game is very relaxing and there’s enough different tracks to keep you entertained. If you prefer, you can play music on your PS3’s hard drive as custom soundtracks are available.

Qlione Evolve is now available on the PlayStation Network for $6.99, and you get two games in one, so it is well worth the price. If you are looking for a relaxing game to break the monotony of shooters and racing games, look no further than Qlione Evolve.
