Drew Brees Named Madden NFL 11 Cover Athlete

EA Sports announced today that Drew Brees, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, will be gracing the cover of Madden NFL 11.

Brees beat out several other contestants for the cover, which was voted upon by fans. Brees, out of Purdue University, led the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl victory, a sweet celebration for the city of New Orleans after years of rebuilding from the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

Brees was deadly efficient last year, leading a high-powered offense that seemed to simply dominate and control opponents through the air, on the ground, and defensively as well. Marching their way through the regular season, the Saints finally ran into a tough opponent in the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship. The Vikings, quarterbacked by Brett Favre took the game down to the wire but a late interception thrown by Favre sealed the victory for the Saints who then fought an incredible battle against the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl.

Madden NFL 11 will be following up on an incredible year for the Madden series. Madden NFL 10 greatly improved on many aspects of the game and included new, more realistic tackling, a unique Be A Pro mode and unique depth-of-field effects to capture the true size of an NFL field.

The timing of the announcement from EA coincides with today’s NFL draft, which will see college players rising into the NFL and carrying the hopes of their teams on their shoulders. Somewhere in this year’s draft class there is sure to be a future Madden cover athlete. Early votes? Sam Bradford? Tim Tebow? Jimmy Clausen? Your guess is as good as mine.
