A tweet yesterday by Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist and go-to publicity guru for Infinity Ward, announced that Modern Warfare 2 has officially reached 25 million unique users.
Modern Warfare 2 arrived in November 2009 and immediately began shattering records not only for video gaming, but for entertainment across all mediums. Raking in over a billion dollars in sales, Modern Warfare 2’s online community is staggeringly large. 25 million! That’s nearly the population of Canada and it’s three times the population of Switzerland. My God!
In addition to announcing the number, Bowling also tweeted that the majority of players were gaming on Xbox LIVE but that PSN was a “close second” and that millions more are playing on the PC.
Modern Warfare 2 hasn’t been without its controversy. In fact, it’s been swaddled in controversy since its release. Numerous glitches allowed users to cheat in multiplayer matches and Infinity Ward’s co-heads, Jason West and Vince Zampella, were recently fired for “insubordination” by Activision and they are now suing for numerous reasons.
