CryEngine 3 Released to Developers

CryEngine 3, Crytek’s latest graphics engine following after CryEngine 2, which was used to create the incredibly realistic environments of Crysis, has been released to developers so that they can use the technology to craft graphically stunning games. CryEngine 3 will be used to create Crysis 2, which will be available not only on the PC, but also on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. CryEngine 3 will, as a result, be more versatile and will support development in DirectX 9, 10 and 11.

Crytek has always been at the forefront of graphical advances since they released Far Cry for the PC in 2004. Arriving on store shelves just ahead of the release of Doom 3, Far Cry was a stunning development in game engine technology crafting huge, open-world levels on South Pacific islands. The game was hailed critically and was commercially successful, spawning Xbox, Xbox 360 and Wii ports.
