New Left 4 Dead 2 Update In The Works

Update Will Add Special Infected Bots and Fix Auto-Spawning Issues

January 23, 2010 – Yesterday, Valve announced that a new update for their zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2 will be coming in a few weeks. The update will add special infected bots so that, in Versus games, teams are balanced in case one or two special infected players drop out. It will also add a fix for auto-spawning problems during the map finales that have fans complaining about spawning “too far from the action.”

In the original Left 4 Dead, infected players could choose where they wanted to spawn, hiding in dark corners and anticipating the moves of the survivors. However, Valve tweaked Left 4 Dead 2‘s furious final battles so that infected would spawn automatically, taking away player choice and resulting in spawn points that are ridiculously far away from the action. As a result, Valve will be removing the auto-spawning feature of the Versus finales.

The bot update will make certain that players aren’t left shorthanded when a player or two drops off of the infected team in Versus. While there are always AI bots available for the Survivors, Special Infected players would be left to hang. The update will make the games more even if someone has to leave.

In addition, Valve said it’s still working on “The Passing” DLC, which will reunite the original Survivors from Left 4 Dead with the survivors from Left 4 Dead 2 on an all-new map.

The update will be made available for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
