Game Room to Feature 1,000 Arcade Classics; Will Be Compatible on Xbox 360 and PC

January 7, 2010 – Yesterday evening, during Microsoft’s Consumer Electronics Show keynote address, Steve Balmer, CEO of Microsoft, announced that Xbox Live would feature the Game Room, which will allow users to walk around a virtual space with their avatars, visit with friends and challenge others to play retro arcade games.

The Game Room will feature the ability to design your own space and will ship with 30 available games, all of which can be purchased via Xbox Live. The games, arcade classics, will include titles such as Space Hawk, Sea Battle, Astrosmash, Sub Hunt and more. During the keynote address, Balmer noted that “we’ll be launching a new set of arcade games, over a thousand games over the next three years on Game Room.”

In addition, Game Room will span both Xbox 360 and PC platforms, enabling users to play the games and access the game room on both their Xbox 360 and their Windows PC.
