‘Armored’ Released On the PlayStation Store for Free

Mistake Puts Movie That’s Still in Theatres on PSN

January 3, 2009 – Earlier this week the movie ‘Armored’, which is still in theaters, was released for download on the PlayStation Store, formatted for both the PS3 and PSP. Unfortunately for Sony the blunder didn’t even net them any cash as the movie was made available for free. The mistake was caught and fixed in about five hours, but in that short time it was downloaded by many sharp-eyed PS3 and PSP owners. Sony hasn’t yet made any official comment on the event.

However, the fact that this mistake even occurred points to the possibility that the intended release date for the movie wasn’t all that far off. This isn’t the first time that Sony has offered movies to their customers before releasing them to the general public. ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’, another movie which Sony owned distribution rights to, was made available for download to Sony customers a full month before it was released on Blu-ray and DVD. This slip would seem to indicate that Sony had a similar plan for ‘Armored’ as soon as it was finished showing in theaters.
