First Dead Space 2 Screenshots

Screenshots Show Isaac Clarke’s New Gear, New Enemies, New Locale

December 22, 2009 – The first screenshots from Dead Space 2 have appeared on Game Informer’s website. The screenshots have been compiled into a 3D image using Microsoft Silverlight technology, which enables viewers to look around the scene as though they are in an instant-replay screen of sorts.

The images show Isaac, the hero from the first Dead Space title, fighting off a vicious Necromorph who appears to be child-like in stature. The creature leaps onto Isaac as numerous other creatures pour after him.

While the creatures look intriguing, the most interesting features of the new screenshots are the setting and Isaac’s outfit. Indeed, Isaac’s outfit looks lighter and more futuristic. He wields his standard plasma cutter as he prepares to fend off the creature.

The setting is noticeably very different from that of Dead Space. Gone are the industrial corridors, the yawning space vacuums and the stars twinkling in the sky. They have been replaced with what appears to be either a mansion, library, or perhaps even a church. There are large supporting columns, what may be stained glass windows, and decorative flooring.

Dead Space 2 is being developed by Visceral Games, who developed Dead Space and who are finishing up development on Dante’s Inferno. The first Dead Space game saw Isaac Clarke, an engineer, fighting for his life as a routine maintenance appearance on an unresponsive, planet cracker spaceship, turns into a deadly fight against Necromorphs, twisted remains of humans that are vicious and powerful. The game was critically acclaimed for its innovative gameplay, its stunning graphics and design, and its terrifying story.

Dead Space 2 has no release date at the moment but is being developed for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
