First Final Fantasy XIII Review Revealed

Famitsu Magazine Awards Final Fantasy XIII a 39/40; Is Surpassed by Bayonetta’s 40/40

Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu awarded Square-Enix’s Final Fantasty XIII with a score of 39/40, just shy of a perfect 40/40.

The fantasy-based RPG, which is highly anticipated in Japan and across the world, has an anticipated release date of March, 2010 here in North America.

Famitsu provides score on a scale of 40/40 by evaluating the differing reviews of four staff members, and three out of the four reviewers gave Final Fantasy XIII a perfect 10. The reviewers acclaimed the game’s deep, engaging gameplay, beautiful graphics, and the effortless way in which the series has evolved into the next generation of consoles.

However, the reviewer who awarded Final Fantasy XIII with a 9/10 said, “There’s a few niggling issues like battle damage being difficult to see, and the screen being cluttered, but the amount of enjoyment this game offers more than makes up for it. You’ll be drawn into the world with visual, aural, and story aspects. I have a bit of resistance calling this an ‘RPG-like RPG’ however.”

The score bodes well for the game despite the news that Bayonetta recently received a perfect 40/40 from the same magazine. It appears as though Square-Enix has another solid title on its hands, and the series’ core fan base is almost certainly going to buy the game in droves.

Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Japan next week and in North America and Europe in March, 2010. It will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
