EA is tackling LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers in one fell swoop with their newest title, Create, which was just revealed today.
Create encourages players to create their own levels, and slowly grow a free-form, open gaming world.
“Create uses families’ imaginations to develop new ways to play together that are both fun and challenging,” said Harvey Elliott, vp and general manager at EA’s Bright Light studio. “We wanted to design a game where the entire family can explore, decorate, and solve challenges where no solution is wrong and the only limit is the imagination.”
The game will reward players for level creation and success in beating levels by unlocking rewards such as new tools to work with that can make more complex, beautiful levels. The rewards would range from items such as brushes, tools, textures, props, and animations.
The game is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii, and Mac. All but the Wii version of the game will allow for players to share their creations with others via their consoles and via the Create website, www.create.ea.com.
User-created games have been critical and commercial successes, allowing people to feel a true sense of accomplishment as they explore the power of the tools at their disposal. For instance, a recent level created by a PlayStation 3 gamer in LittleBigPlanet was designed to look and play just like the Xbox LIVE Arcade title LIMBO. The possibilities within these games are endless, providing great replayability and value, and it will be nice for Xbox 360, PC, Mac, and Wii gamers to get a taste of what’s already been a big hit on the PlayStation 3.
Create is scheduled to arrive in November and will support Move for the PlayStation 3. No word on Kinect support.
