Capcom announced today that Mark Beaumont, the company’s executive vice president and North American and European chief operating officer, died suddenly early this morning. According to MCV, the cause of death was a heart attack. Capcom’s official statement is as follows:

“Our COO and dear friend, Mark Beaumont, passed away this morning. This sudden loss has left us with deep sadness. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones. We will remember him for his humor, passion and commitment to Capcom and our industry. He was a great leader and visionary and his spirit will carry on in everything that we do. Please join us in memory of Mark.”

Mr. Beaumont, who had been with Capcom since he left Midway in 2005, was in his late 50s. The gaming industry has just lost a great figure and role-model. Mr. Beaumont will be missed.
