Usually when a demo breaks I try and pick out the five biggest elements that stood out, either positively or negatively. WithSplit/Second we’re knocking it down to three. Why only three instead of five? Because the demo for Split/Second is only about as long as the game’s title. With only one race, no track choices and everyone driving the same car its really difficult to get a handle on a whole lot about the game. But here is what we do know. continue reading…


Crackdown was an enormous success. Not content with being “that game with the Halo 3 beta”, it turned out that putting a super-powered agent in the middle of a sprawling city tasked with killing off three large gangs was actually a ton of fun. Racing games fall into one of two categories. Either they take an arcade approach to the controls and focus on the street-racing tuner culture of Midnight Club or Need for Speed, or they eschew all of that for a true racing simulation experience, along the likes of Gran Turismo. I rarely find myself attached to the former, and have never understood the allure of the latter (especially when I can just go outside and drive a real car). I must begin by apologizing for the lateness of the review. The perfect storm of the Easter holiday and my three day jaunt at PAX East have conspired to reduce my otherwise absurd amount of gaming time down to that of mere mortals. I am not a Wii player. Glad we got that out of the way early. That’s not to say that I’ve never played it; I just don’t own the system and my experiences with it usually are from playing Boom Bloxx at a friend’s house.
