By far the biggest announcement at PAX Prime in Seattle this week was the news that Duke Nukem Forever isn’t as dead as it seemed. It turns out that 2K Games purchased the rights to the game, and Gearbox Software, developers of Brothers in Arms and Borderlands, is currently making Duke Nukem Forever into a game that actually will get played at some point in the near future. This past week I found myself in a conundrum. I had just completed Mafia II and had nothing else new on the near horizon until NHL 11 arrives on September 7. I had a couple of weeks with nothing to play – would I go back to Modern Warfare 2? Play Madden online? According to a Kotaku report, all GameStop stores on U.S. military bases will no longer take pre-orders for Medal of Honor, the upcoming EA game based in Afghanistan.

As of noon today, all GameStop stores on U.S. military bases had to stop taking orders out of respect for the military personnel in Afghanistan.

According to an internal memo obtained by Kotaku, GameStop made the decision “out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform.” continue reading…


 
Talk about big numbers – Take-Two announced today that Red Dead Redemption has sold a ridiculous 6.9 million copies already and is closing in on 7 million. How impressive is that?

The sales totals put Red Dead Redemption in elite territory. In fact, if we go by VGChartz numbers, it would be the top-selling game so far this year, surpassing Wii Sports (6.65 million) and New Super Mario Bros. Wii (5.6 million). That is impressive. continue reading…


 
Did you hear? We kind of liked Mafia II. Sure, it’s received mixed reviews from the press, but we freaking loved it. Why? Well, it’s a great story, fantastic action, and it’s extremely well acted. And, while Empire Bay isn’t full of side quests and bonus missions, it is beautifully designed. There’s a lot of hard work that went into the game, and we highly recommend it.

Which is why we’re also really excited about Jimmy’s Vendetta, a DLC pack for the Xbox 360, and PS3 that will be available on September 7. Woah, that’s not a long ways away, is it? continue reading…
