PS3 System Update 4.46 Live Now – Download Links Here

By: Louis Edwards

The replacement PS3 System update 4.46 is live now.

Download links now available after the jump.

Be sure to download the proper file for your PS3. Japan’s update file isn’t the same as the US or EU update file.

If you are stuck at the wavy screen update again via Safemode.

Also see the official page for the 4.45 issue here.

Here are the download links. Note the region:

Update using a PC Required items

  • PLAYSTATION®3 system
  • A wireless controller
  • A USB cable
  • A PC with Internet access
  • Storage media (Memory Stick™, SD Memory Card, CompactFlash®)* or a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive
(At least 130 MB of free space required)
    * An appropriate USB adaptor (not included) is required to use storage media with some models.

Update data download procedure

  1. Create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data.
Using a PC, create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named “UPDATE”.
  2. Download the update data from the above links and save it in the “UPDATE” folder created in step 1.

Notice: Be sure to save the update data as noted below. If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3™ system will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

  • Location: Save in the “PS3” folder > “UPDATE” folder
  • File name: Save as file name “PS3UPDAT.PUP”.

Update procedure Notices

  • Do not turn off the PS3™ system or remove the storage media or USB device during an update. If an update is cancelled before completion, the system software may become damaged, and the system may require servicing or exchange.
  • During an update, the power button on the system front and PS button of the controller are inactive.
  1. Insert the storage media or USB device that contains the update data in the PS3™ system.
  2. From the home menu, select Settings Icon (Settings) > System Update Icon (System Update), and then press the button.
  3. Select [Update via Storage Media], and then press the button.

  4. The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.

  1. Start the update data.
Press the button to start the update data. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
  2. Confirm that the update was successful.
After the update has been completed, go to Settings Icon (Settings) > (System Settings) > [System Information]. If the [System Software] field displays the version number of the update, the update was successful.

Hint: You can delete the update data from the storage media or USB device after the update has been successfully completed.

update 4.45 was automatically downloaded using ps+ and I’m stuck at the screen where it tells me what I downloaded….please help!!!

If you are stuck at the wavy screen, or any other, update using safemode by downloading the proper update file and using a USB flash drive.

Whenever I connect the usb device and go to storage media it says ‘no applicable update data was found.

    Please help me! 🙂

After 5 attempts it got to not even 4% downloaded before it went ‘Error Occurred’, there after I got it to 33% after 4hrs, then the console turned itself off.
I never had this ‘bricked’ problem, but the update is forced when I try to sign in and it tells me about a new option to show newly earned trophies.
I never even had a 4.45 Update to begin with!
Now I’ve tried doing it via storage media here, and the download wants to take over a day.
My net is fine, everything works fast, sites load properly, so is there any chance this file is corrupt? I’m in the AU/NZ region. Thanks.

  • Louis Edwards

@Tomcat It could be that a lot of people are downloading it and really hammering the server. Wait a while and try again.

@Anonymous Make sure the folder names are identical to what is listed. There is no room for error in the naming convention.

You have to have the folder structure named exactly like I said.

Open up your USB drive in windows explorer. If the drive letter is F: then this is what it HAS to be set up:

Thanks for that Louis. I’ll give it a shot later tonight and see what happens.
