Usually when a demo breaks I try and pick out the five biggest elements that stood out, either positively or negatively. WithSplit/Second we’re knocking it down to three. Why only three instead of five? Because the demo for Split/Second is only about as long as the game’s title. With only one race, no track choices and everyone driving the same car its really difficult to get a handle on a whole lot about the game. But here is what we do know. continue reading…

Those who knew me well know that I love hockey. I play hockey all-year round. Yes, even in the summer I find a rink to play in and join summer leagues. I am passionate about my sport and I suppose it’s the Canadian blood in me. After all, my grandfather was drafted by the Maple Leafs (before losing his legs in World War II on a bombing run over Germany), my other grandfather played when growing up in Montreal and my dad won the city championship in Montreal and went on to play at Ithaca.

This has nothing to do with video games but everything to do with passion. I’m passionate about games and I’m passionate about hockey and because I’m passionate about both I try to recruit people to be interested in both. I engage people in discussions about gaming if they don’t seem to understand my fervor, and I talk endlessly about the glorious Montreal Canadiens every chance I get.

With that said, the NHL playoffs are on now, the Stanley Cup playoffs, the fight for Lord Stanley’s Cup, and everyone should be watching. Are you watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Please tell me you are. You should be. Just look at the two videos after the break and tell me you don’t want to watch this sport. continue reading…

Disney released a new video yesterday of Split/Second’s Survival Mode. Check it out after the break.

The mode challenges players to avoid being destroyed by a Semi as they race through the streets of a highly destructible city. Split/Second promises to bring unparalleled destruction to the racing genre, allowing players to knock over buildings and structures in order to disrupt opponents race paths and dynamically change the course. Survival Mode will be available in single player, online and split-screen co-op.

The game, being developed by BlackRock, will be available on May 18 in North America for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. continue reading…

EA formally announced that their PC MMO, All Points Bulletin (APB) will arrive on June 29 in the US and July 1 in Europe.

The announcement was made by EA after they accidentally left the release date information in a FAQ for the game that’s being developed by RealTime Worlds.

In their announcement EA also clarified that there will be pre-order bonuses for the game, including exclusive access to the “Key to the City” demo, “VIP gametime” and several in-game items yet to be announced. continue reading…

The Dead Space 2 website has been updated, and boy does it have visuals to make any fan’s mouth water.

While there aren’t a ton of visuals, the ones that are up are beautiful. In HD glory, they show off a concept art piece of the USG Ishimura floating in space, Isaac seemingly losing his mind, a memorial to the Ishimura and a shot of Isaac’s suit covered in blood after, we assume, eviscerating a Necromorph or two or five hundred or so.

The visuals offer a nice glimpse into the game and of course are a great reminder of how wonderful the first title’s art direction was and how gorgeous Dead Space 2 already is shaping up to be. Also, the new trailer for Dead Space 2 can be seen after the break. Lots of Dead Space 2 goodness courtesy of Visceral and EA. continue reading…
