New Super Mario Bros. A Huge Hit

New Super Mario Bros. Surpasses Super Mario Galaxy in Sales

January 23, 2010 - The latest figures from The NPD revealed that New Super Mario Bros. has surpassed the previous iteration of Mario on the Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, which was very highly applauded by critics.

Super Mario Galaxy was released in 2007 and sold 4.1 million copies. It came out shortly after the release of the Wii and New Super Mario Bros. has benefited enormously from the now gigantic numbers of Wii’s in the America’s and beyond. The NPD, which measures sales in North America, revealed that New Super Mario Bros. has already reached 4.2 million sales after a month and a half on the shelves. It was the top-selling game in December in North America, topping out above similarly hyped games such as Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.

New Super Mario Bros. offers a unique twist on the old platforming game. It offers the ability for numerous players to work together at once, capitalizing on the Wii’s party-machine reputation.

The Nintendo Wii has been wildly successful since it’s launch on November 19, 2006, selling more than 60 million units worldwide and has seen equally high game sales as a result.

Here is a hint the Wii has more games to it’s arsenal in terms of gameability than the competition don’t call it a party machine. It’s articles like these that upset true Nintendonites like myself; a real gamer. Let me write the articles.

@ Truth – I believe the article says “Party machine reputation,” which the Wii has. It’s top-selling games are titles such as Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit, which claim the top three spots. There are great games for the Nintendo, and if you look at our reviews you’d see that we LOVED New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In fact, it won our “Nintendo Wii Game of the Year Award” and received a 10/10 score. But, the fact remains, the best-selling games on the Wii are party games and most people identify the Wii with those games, hence the term “party machine reputation.”

Geoffrey calver accept my sincere apology, I should have been slow to speak but quick to listen as said in the Good holy book. You guys trully have given credit were it is due. Thanks for calling on my folly. Please push for the great games on the Wii so other gamers like myself can teach our children how we grew up. Thirty years old, and my wife is from my generation; she fiinished Mario bros. and Mario bros. 3 on nes and I didn’t. We love The Wii but want others to know what Nintendo really is all about. Great games in all formats.

I love how I didn’t have to buy this game, Nintendo were kind enough to give me a copy as a gift for Christmas. Thank You Nintendo, but as good as the game is, it still isn’t as good as Super Mario 64!
