4. Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Sky
Square Enix are hoping to finally break Dragon Quest into the Western market with this ninth installment in the series. Dragon Quest is so popular in Japan that the entire country practically grinds to a standstill whenever a new version is released, but it’s never had much of an impact beyond the borders of Nippon. The developers have tried to remedy this by designing the game to have wider appeal – gone are the irritating random encounters, and the focus is much more action-oriented this time round. But the game’s major draw is the multiplayer, which has benefited from a constant stream of DLC in Japan. Could this be the Dragon Quest title that breaks through to the West?

Dragon Quest IX is much more action-oriented in order to appeal to a western audience. Will it appeal in North America and Europe? Number four on our list.
